Recycling news

Grapevine is making it easier than ever to go green. Here’s the latest in news of how to reduce, reuse and recycle:

1. New Centralized Recycling Station.  Recycle containers are located in the parking lot next to the Grapevine Animal Shelter at 500 Shady Brook Drive.  You can drop off recycling items at your convenience rather than waiting for curbside pickup, which could come in very useful if your bins are often overflowing.

2.  November’s water bill will contain a magnet insert to help you identify items that the city will accept for recycling (I don’t know about you, but I can never keep the various types of plastic straight).  Very handy!

3.  The second annual Grapevine Recycles Day will be held on Saturday, November 13 from 8-11:30 a.m.  at the Municipal Service Center at 501 Shady Brook Drive.  Normal recyclables will be accepted as well as items such as e-waste (computer equipment and TVs), printer cartridges, batteries, sneakers, tools, and books.  Hazardous materials such as paint, medical waste, and chemicals will NOT be accepted (there are separate hazardous recycling days for these items).

The Public Works Department at 817-410-3330 can answer any questions regarding the recycling program.

I would love to see an update on opportunities for hazardous materials recycling as well. Last time I took advantage as we had recently done some painting and it was so nice to be able to properly recycle the leftover cans.

So glad to hear this! I’ve been hoping for a more convenient way to start recycling, but I haven’t been sure of where to take my stuff. I do wish they would accept paint/mineral spirits, though.
