We went back to Farina’s Winery last night, which we wrote a detailed review of a month or so ago here. Last night they were super busy and we were lucky to get a table. A little out of the ordinary for a Monday night but I assume with its being a holiday week, more people were out and about. (We commented on the large number of families with children on Main Street at 9 p.m., but then, there is no school this week!).
I had the chicken marsala which was good although a little unorthodox – the sauce was thick and somewhat tomato-y which I usually don’t see with chicken marsala. But the flavor was good. The side portion of spaghetti and sauce was quite a bit larger than it really needed to be, although I see this issue quite a lot. All in all a good meal and the server was very attentive despite there being a large crowd there.
The food was unusually slow to come out, which wasn’t a particular problem as we were not in a hurry and were just relaxing. However, our server apologized profusely and told us they were giving us a free dessert. She then brought out the most amazing piece of Kahlua cake I have ever seen. It was thick and warm and served with ice cream and was just heavenly. It wasn’t too sweet, either and reminded me somewhat of German chocolate cake, only without any frosting. I’m only sorry I didn’t get a picture because it looked as good as it tasted.
So if you go to Farina’s, I highly recommend you save room for dessert and order the chocolate Kahlua cake. And, you can expect to be treated well. I’m never surprised when I get great service at a local Grapevine restaurant but I am always grateful and appreciative.
