This is a story I want to look into more. The Grapevine Courier is reporting that several highly experienced police officers currently assigned to desk duties are being reassigned to patrol duties. The reason given is that this will help mentor new recruits and leverage these officers’ experience in the field.
While this makes sense, at least one officer feels there is more to the story. He claims the reassignment is retaliation for his having spoken out against GCISD’s plan to end the DARE anti-drug and anti-alcohol program in the public schools.
I’m enough of a cynic to dig into all the possibilities more rather than accepting the party line. While mentoring is very important, the timing of these reassignments is a little coincidental.
