Biscuits Cafe

Ah, at long last, time for a review of my very favorite breakfast place in Grapevine!  And I love me some good breakfast, and Grapevine has more than its share of good choices, so you know Biscuits Cafe has got to be good.

On this visit, I had been craving their chorizo omelet, so of course I had to indulge.  I had been out of the country for a few weeks traveling for work and had not had so much as a taste of Tex-Mex/Mexican/any Latin type of food during that time.  I was pining for those flavors and oh! that omelet was so good.

The chorizo omelet is stuffed with avocado, green chiles, onions and cheese and of course, chorizo sausage.  It was topped with salsa and sour cream and served with a generous side of hash browns and delicious fluffy biscuits.  If you don’t want the biscuits (and if you don’t, may I ask why not??), you can substitite toast or pancakes.

Behold the tastiness:

We often go to Biscuits and split an omelet which to be honest is usually plenty of food for two people when you consider the potatoes and biscuits that go along with it.  On this particular visit, I was hungry enough to eat it all myself!  That doesn’t happen often unless maybe I just got through running about 8 miles (which often precedes a visit to Biscuits as it’s a favorite among my running buds).

I’m also a fan of the scrambled egg dishes including the signature Joe’s Scramble as well as the diced ham scramble.  I generally crave protein in the morning so I go for some eggs, meat and cheese, but I have also had pancakes on occasion and they were quite tasty.  I love eggs benedict and so am determined to try it one day if I can ever tear myself away from the omelets long enough.

Biscuits is also open for lunch and we have been there a few times although we’re more partial to breakfast.  They do have a nice variety of salads and sandwiches for a light lunch.  Their sandwiches are served with french fries but you can subsititute a side of fruit and I always appreciate restaurants that will let you do that.

Run, do not walk, to Biscuits the next time you want to go out for a great hearty breakfast on a weekend (or a weekday for that matter if you are lucky enough to have the time).

We tried this place 3 times. Each time was the same result: Bad and VERY slow service and incorrect and/or cold food. We started going to Waffle Way at Dove Loop and NW Hwy. Fast service, old school feel and really good breakfast. They have a CFS and eggs thats the best in the area. Get the big cfs though and not the small. The small is a frozen patty, the big one is hand breaded meat. Waitresses are friendly but amuzingly cranky at times. Food is always hot and good.

Wow, I must say I am totally surprised to read about a bad experience (much less more than one!) at Biscuits. I have never had bad service there, even the time I went with a group where one person grilled the server for at least 5 minutes about the food (she was a strict vegetarian – yes in case you were wondering, the biscuits do contain lard). I would have expected the server to lose patience, but she was very accommodating.

I have dreams about that chorizo omelet, not to mention the biscuits. In my experience, Biscuits has the absolute best breakfast in town.

That being said, I have had Waffle Way on my list for a long time and have yet to try it out. I need to move that to-do up on the priority list. Everything I have read about it suggests exactly what you say – old school, plain old good food and unpretentious atmosphere. Good to know about the CFS, too – Jason is a big fan of that at breakfast.

Waffle way is ok for a quick little regular breakfast, but honestly its no different than something you could whip up at home. Biscuits Cafe, however……one word….WOW! I am absolutely in love with their bendicts. Which one? ANY of them. They offer so many different ones, I never even knew others existed! My husband is on a vegetarian kick, so he’s been getting the one with avocados. I get the traditional benedict with ham usually. If you’re new to Biscuits, make sure to try the sweet potatoe pancakes, they are absolutley amazing.
Emily- I have yet to try the chorizo omelet, but the biscuits omelet will have you spinning in circles for joy 🙂
Awesome staff, you cant forget about the staff. I’ve seen a few new faces lately, and even the newer ones are super sweet and informative.

          Hi Taryn,

I agree, Biscuits is great. Waffle Way is alright, but I think we both like Biscuits better also. Thanks for commenting!
