What to do this weekend

There’s plenty to do around town this weekend and the weather should be really nice to help take advantage of it (unless of course you’re running in the Cowtown Marathon events, in which case it will be hot, humid and windy – not ideal running weather, but what can you do?).

If you do want to check out the Cowtown, the runners would surely appreciate some cheering and maybe a hand with the refreshments.   The website linked above has information on spectator locations and aid station volunteering.  Come out either Saturday morning for the 5K/10K events or Sunday for the half marathon, full marathon and 50K runs.

If you want to stay closer to home, there are some good options in Grapevine.  The AKS Gem Show will be at the Grapevine Convention Center from Friday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closing at 4 p.m. on Sunday).  Admission is only $5 and there is free parking and concessions available.  If you’re into making (or wearing!) jewelry, this should be an event of interest.

Also there is a production of Greater Tuna at the Palace Arts Center presented by the Texas Family Musicals on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 and also Saturday afternoon at 2:30.  Tickets range from $14 to $35 and can be purchased here.

If you’re interested in some live music, here’s the scoop on what and where:

The Tap-In – Rumble Kings (Friday), Adrenaline Aftermath (Saturday)
Willhoite’s – 3 Drunk Monkeys (Friday and Saturday)
Cork It! – Bryce Cole (Friday), Boogieman (Saturday)
Glass Cactus – Blaze of Glory (Friday), The Klocks (Saturday)
Tolbert’s – The Tonemasters (Friday), Me & My Monkey (Saturday)
