Last night was a visit to the people holding their place in line for the opening of the Grapevine location of Freebirds World Burrito; this evening was a visit to actually partake of said burritos.
I thought of placing my order online so I could pick it right up and skip whatever crowds might be gathered there. The website said you have to place the order 30 minutes in advance, which is just about how long it takes me to get back to Grapevine from my office, so that was perfect. Only problem…the site kept timing out when I tried to actually put in my order. Minor fail. Perhaps everyone had the same idea? Ah well, I decided to take my chances and order in person.
I got there about 7 p.m. and found it busy and noisy, but not unreasonably crowded. There were only 2-3 people ahead of me in line. There were a LOT of employees there and they were fast and very friendly. I decided on the “hybird” size which is their smallest burrito, and filled it with cilantro rice, black beans, seasoned white meat chicken, corn salsa, guacamole, salsa, and pico de gallo (I think that’s everything). I’m happy they offer this size of burrito, because their food is so tasty that it would be a shame to order too much and waste it.
The hybird burrito, before and after peeling back the foil. There’s an art to the wrapping of these burritos, truly there is::
I was on my way home from work and anxious to get into more comfortable clothes, plus I was alone, so I decided to get my burrito to go. On the way out, I noticed the very nice patio they have. Not so great on a day when the high hit 104 degrees, but in a couple of months it will be a different story.
They had several catering vehicles parked around the restaurant as well, all crazily decorated like this one:
In addition to burritos, they also have tacos, nachos, salads, the “bowl” (which I particularly like and often order so I can fill up on all the tasty fillings without an overdose of carbs), and also a few tasty sides like chips and salsa.
This Freebirds has a great amosphere, fun and friendly but not too crazy. Even on opening day, which impressed me. I think this is a great addition to the Grapevine dining scene.
