On Saturday evening we paid a visit to one of the best kept secrets in Grapevine; Taqueria los Burritos Locos. I’m often amazed by the people I talk to who have never been here or even heard of it. This is small-town Tex-Mex at its best. I have been here before to pick up a breakast burrito after a long run at Lake Grapevine. The breakfast burritos are huge and at $6 could easily feed two people. One of the best breakfast deals in town, without question. We went for dinner this time and the enchiladas are just as good as the breakfast burritos.
We started with chips and salsa, like most such restaurants, and were happy to find they give you a choice of 3 different kinds of salsa. They had varying flavors and amounts of heat, and I personally had trouble deciding which I liked best. Two of them were very spicy and as native Texans with asbestos tongues, we really enjoyed those. The third had a good flavor but not as much heat; I guess they put that on the table for the Northerners who stop by!
We each ordered enchiladas rojas (enchiladas with red sauce) – I had ground beef filling and Jason had pork. They came with a salad of sorts on the side (very fresh tomatoes and cucumber – yum) and the standard rice and beans. I found them better than most enchiladas I have had around town and they were definitely made fresh for us and made when we ordered – none of this “starting without you” that some restaurants make a practice of.
The Taqueria is also a big supporter of community events and organizations. They regularly sponsor races and other events for the Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers. Needless to say, we are only too happy to thank them with our business and eat there often. It’s a win-win situation if you ask me.
Taqueria los Burritos Locos is located at 416 Northwest Highway in Grapevine, just west of Main Street. Stop by and enjoy this gem sometime soon. The food is fresh and tasty and the prices more than reasonable.
