There were some very moving ceremonies in Grapevine to mark the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. At 7:30 a.m., a few hundred residents gathered near the 9/11 Flight Crew memorial statue at the intersection of Texan Trail and Northwest Highway. I was glad to see a nice crowd there including many pilots and flight attendants in uniform as well as police and fire departments in full dress uniform. The ceremony included music, a reading of the September 11 flight crews’ names by the brother of one of the crew members who were lost, and four bell tolls at the moment of impact (7:46 a.m.) to represent the four flights. There was also an explanation of the meaning of the statue, which includes two pilots, two flight attendants, and a child (to represent the traveling public).
Ten years has passed so quickly but yet also it seems so long ago. I appreciate that many are putting effort into today’s ceremonies across the country, that we might never forget.
