Things to do this weekend in Grapevine

Now that the holidays are past, school is back in session, and the weather is finally becoming tolerable, it’s time to get out of the house and out on the town.  There are lots of things going on this weekend, many of which are September 11-related tributes and events and definitely worth while to take part in.

Italian Carfest at Nash Farm will take place on Saturday the 10th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Some truly beautiful cars will be on display and admission is free; also there is plenty of free parking.   Nash Farm is located at 626 Ball Street.

There will be some ceremonies honoring the fire and police departments at the 9/11 flight crew memorial site at Northwest Highway and Texan Trail (address is 1000 Texan Trail).  There will be a “Lowering of the Flag” at 7:30 a.m. and a memorial program at 7:30 p.m.    Also on Sunday the 11th, the Palace Arts Center will be showing United 93 at 1 p.m. and The Guys at 4 p.m.  Both movies are $5.

In other September 11-related events, the American Airlines running club will be hosting the World Airline Road Race at Meadowmere Park on Sunday morning. There will be a 10K, 5K, and 1 mile fun run.  The 10K starts at 7:30, the 5K starts at 9:11, and the 1 mile starts at 10:30.  There will be music and other activities starting at 11 a.m.

Also at the Palace Arts Center, there will be a feature of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on Friday night.  Tickets are $5 and if you bring in a receipt from a Grapevine restaurant, you can get free popcorn.
