Los Cabos restaurant changes ownership and concept

We learned this week from a loyal reader that Los Cabos restaurant is now under new ownership and the restaurant is being remodeled (while still remaining open) into a new sports bar to be called “The Press Box.”   The old menu is still there but will soon be replaced.

This is interesting because a while back, we reported some news of a local Mexican restaurant being for sale.  Based on the description, in my opinion it was Los Cabos.  No way to be certain, of course – but all indications are that I called it.

We will go check out this development and report back with more details on the new concept.

i hate to hear this! i lv’d Los Cabos, best Mexican food. Price was good for what you got, and the servers were terrific. I could care less about some Sports Bar type of place, yuck! Bring back Los Cabos 🙁

I agree Los Cabos was very good, but there is certainly no shortage of good Mexican restaurants in the area. I am glad to hear they kept all the staff.

I assume you’ve been to Baja Grill or Taqueria Burritos Locos; if not, definitely check them out, as you will find good food and prices and terrific service there as well.

    Hi Amanda,

I’m the marketing manager for Press Box Grill, and daughter of owners Tom & Jan. We are a family-owned & operated establishment and are very happy to now have this Grapevine location as our family has lived in the Grapevine/Southlake area for 20+ years now.

We’re very sorry to have taken away one of your favorite Mexican food restaurants, unfortunately it just wasn’t doing well in the Grapevine Mexican food restaurant market since there are so many other similar restaurants nearby. The good news is that we are far from your typical sports bar-type place and we also kept on all of the Los Cabos staff. You will still see a lot of the same faces – there are some new ones too of course! – and get the same great service they offer. We are also a family friendly, non-smoking restaurant (smoking outside on the patio only) that has great versions of typical sports bar food along with gourmet burgers, salads, sandwiches and other entree items like Blackened Salmon or the Jalapeno Pork Chops. We have the beginnings of a beer gallery (8 drafts, 23 bottleds) that we hope will eventually match the breadth offered at our flagship location in downtown Dallas, and we’ve renovated the space to a “rustic yet modern” feel similar to what you might find at the Gaylord resort. But yes, we like sports too, so we got a 120″ TV screen in the front room accompanied by another 11 flat screens all around the place.

So yes, we’re a sports bar & grill, but a much nicer and cleaner one than the stereotype, and one that offers a little something for everyone – I hope you would consider giving us a chance sometime! (You can find photos and the latest news on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pressboxgrill.)

    Best regards,
    Lauren U.
