Veteran’s Day weekend in Grapevine

I took a moment today to reflect on how thankful I am for our veterans and what they did for our country; hopefully everyone else did the same.   I am glad in a way that I did not have the day off work, since that enabled me to focus more on today for its real meaning, rather than just an opportunity to sleep in, meet with friends and go shopping.

The rest of the weekend will be filled with some great local events.  For example:

ICE! at the Gaylord Texan – This amazing exhibit of carved ice figures and scenes opens today with the theme “Shrek the Halls.”  It’s carved from an astounding 2 million pounds of ice.   The exhibit runs from today through January 1; schedule and prices are here.  Tickets range from $11.95 for children through $26.95 for adults and prices vary for peak/non peak times.  (Based on what I have heard from past years about crowds and lines, all the more reason to try to go at a non-peak time).

Somethin’ Pumpkin at Nash Farm – Saturday from 12-2 p.m.  This is geared primarily towards children and will be a great chance for them to learn all about how pumpkins become delicious pumpkin bread and pies.  There’s more to pumpkins than jack ‘o’ lanterns, that is for sure!

Mid-Cities Stamp Club Expo – Saturday and Sunday at the Grapevine Convention Center.  Both days it opens at 10 a.m.  Closing is at 5 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday.  No charge for either parking or admission.
