Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers held another successful race last weekend, the annual Bold in the Cold. The weather in Texas can be very unpredictable and past races have ranged from bitterly cold to unseasonably warm. This year, Mother Nature cooperated fully and we had a fantastic day for running with temperatures in the 40s and it was also overcast.
This year’s race added a half marathon to the traditional 15K and 5K, in honor of the club’s upcoming 15th anniversary. Entry to the half was only $35, an amazing price for this distance, and the 400 available entries sold out early, as predicted. There were over 1000 registered runners for the three races combined, with many entries coming in the days before the race thanks to the predicted good weather.
In addition to the traditional T-shirt, finishers received a beanie hat which will come in very useful in the cold weeks to come while training outside. The medal newly designed for the half marathon finishers had a great incorporation of the event logo.
Hot chocolate was provided by the organizers of the Hot Chocolate 15K race series to the participants, and also water and fruit was available at the finish line. There was great feedback from race participants on the event’s organization, course, and finisher items. The Bold in the Cold has gotten better and had more participation each year and this year definitely continued the trend. We are looking forward to next year’s race already!
