I have a friend who made some goals for this year and instead of referring to them as her New Year’s resolutions, called them her 2012 “Bucket List.” The idea was not to put so much pressure on herself and to have goals and things to look forward to, rather than a list of “resolutions” that might prove inflexible and in the end, perhaps not enjoyable. Her list included things like vacation spots to visit and ideas for fun family time. With that in mind, I set about to create a bucket list for us and the blog. We are always talking about things we want to do and I thought it wise to write them down and see how we go about accomplishing them.
Visit 10 new (to us) restaurants. That doesn’t sound like very many, but considering we have visited so many of Grapevine’s restaurants already, and considering how we love to return to our favorites, not to mention we are trying to be somewhat responsible and not eat out *all* the time, I think about once a month is a good average of how often to go to a place we’ve never been. Some ideas we had: Main Street Bread Baking Co, Lazy Bones, and Old Hickory Steakhouse.
Participate in the Grapevine Wine Trail. This is something we have wanted to do for quite some time, and there always seems to be a conflict. However, we have penciled in the Sweetheart Wine Trail on February 11-12 for this year and intend to try hard to make it this time. This should be a really fun one, and although Valentine’s Day is so obviously a “Hallmark” holiday, I don’t mind having an excuse to have a romantic date. 🙂
Visit more wineries. This is somewhat related to the above, and the above will certainly accomplish it, but I want to spend more time enjoying tasting and lounging at the many Grapevine wineries.
More live music. We like live music but sometimes have to be in the mood and also would rather hear music when that is the purpose of the evening (rather than during a meal or sometime when we are trying to have conversation). Grapevine has too many venues with good music to not take advantage more of the time. We really enjoyed the Drop Top Rockets on New Year’s Eve at Tap-In, and are looking to see when they will be around again. There are also a few other bands that frequently play at local venues such as Tolbert’s, that I think will be fun to see.
Volunteer at festivals. I have done this once before at Grapefest and had such a good time that I want to plan to spend more time behind the scenes this year at the local festivals. At Grapefest I worked as a wine server and also in vendor hospitality, and would love to do those jobs again or perhaps a new one.
Spend more time exploring the retail outlets downtown. We spend a lot of time eating and drinking on Main Street but not as much time shopping. We have reviewed a few of the retail businesses such as Messina’s Shoe and Boot Repair, but I want to do more of this in 2012.
What is on your Grapevine bucket list for 2012?
